Shelling Peas
Shelling peas is a great thing to do with young children.
There are valuable lessons about where food comes from, it’s great for developing fine motor skills and also it’s a great activity to do while you chat.
You may find a reluctant talker opens up a little when doing an easy, repetitive activity like this.
There are maths lessons too – who has the most peas in their pod? Who will find the biggest pea? How many peas in that pod?
Do encourage your child to eat a raw pea or two – they make a great nutritious snack.
And of course you will have some lovely fresh peas ready to cook for tea.
